| AGAINST ALL ODDS, BRUMMIE TAKEAWAY WINS YET ANOTHER AWARD | |
Conrad Brunton of the Great British Eatery (GBE), Broadway Plaza has won a prestigious award for opening and sustaining a successful restaurant in spite of the difficult economic climate.
Conrad scooped the Against All Odds honour at this year?s Switched On Awards, which recognised the outstanding achievements of leading individuals in the Midlands.
The award comes days after it emerged GBE has been shortlisted to win the prestigious National Fish & Chip Shop of the Year competition 2009. Earlier this year the restaurant?s and chips were also first in the region to be awarded top marks in the Seafish Friers Quality awards.
Conrad was selected out of more than 400 applicants for the Against All Odds award, which recognises people who have shown commitment, determination and has gone that extra mile to succeed, whatever the barriers.
Conrad said: ?I am deeply honoured to have been recognised at Switched On. The last two years have been the hardest of my life. With the business surviving the recession and now winning the Against All Odds Award it has been a truly incredible 2009.?
Awards organiser Angela Agnew said: ?Conrad is a thoroughly deserving winner, it takes real guts to start up a business in the current climate and he has not only kept his head above the water, but created an extremely successful business with a fantastic future.?
Conrad opened The Great British Eatery at Broadway Plaza last year with his friend Andrew Insley when they agreed they couldn?t find any decent fish and chips in Birmingham. The eatery offers freshly cooked British takeaway favourites including Pie & Mash, Fish & Chips and Bangers & Mash, with ingredients and suppliers sourced locally where possible.
Broadway Plaza is located in Francis Road. For more details visit www.broadway-plaza.co.uk12/10/2009
